Administration Unit

Guided under the Cree word ‘onusoowawin’ translated to ‘laws and policies’ and adhering to the Sacred Teachings of Wisdom and Truth, the Government Services Administration Unit encompasses the:

  • Legal and Policy Research Department
  • Membership
  • Gaming Commission
  • Elders Program
  • Restorative Justice
  • Cultural Events
  • Powwow
  • Cree Gathering.

We are committed to providing accurate, ethical services to the community of Opaskwayak as governed through community-approved by-laws and all other applicable regulations and legislation; and ultimately devoted to defending the preservation of our Sovereignty and inherent Treaty Rights.

Property Management Unit

Guided under the Cree word ‘ohnanakuchichikew’ translated to ‘maintain, those who maintain’ and adhering to the Sacred Teachings of Humility and Respect, the Property Management Unit provides the role of caretaker to Opaskwayak’s government buildings:

  • Government Services/Post Office
  • Beatrice Wilson Health Centre
  • Police Services
  • Child and Family Services
  • and the Veteran’s Hall.

Properties including:

  • Burkart Road
  • Donahue Farm
  • #10 Addition
  • Egg Lake Facility, and
  • Pete’s Potato.

We are fully committed to providing professional care and maintenance in accordance with applicable building codes and doing so with respect to our sacred lands on which they are situated, Treaty 5 Territory.

Public Safety Unit

Guided under the Cree word ‘okunowanimewawuk’ translated to ‘protectors’ and adhering to the Sacred Teachings of Courage and Love, the Public Safety Unit entails four critical areas of Public Safety including the:

  • Fire Department
  • First Nation Safety Officers Program
  • Animal Control, and
  • Covid Security Team.

This division strives for continued excellence and dependable service delivery for the safety and protection of our community and their home fires; and serves as a continuous watchful eye dedicated to the precious lives of our Inninewak.
